And with a roster smaller than Tekken 7's initial roster.Īdditionally, if they haven't already, they should establish a main timeline like SoulCalibur, since we know that game is certainly set in the Middle Ages, but we honestly don't know if Tekken is set in present time or if it takes place in the past. Just a note: this is SEVEN HOURS' worth of content with the cutscenes. Geese, Noctis and even Negan aren't canon to Tekken 7, so why should Akuma be? He still has his own fish to fry instead of being some sort of hitman for Kazumi for whatever fucking reason. Fanservice) is honestly anyone's guess.Īnd as for Akuma in Story Mode, I'd rather they retcon him out of existence since Guests shouldn't be canon. Why Namco decided to suddenly drop these in favor of a rather half baked story mode that did the rest of its non-Mishima cast no justice whatsoever (hell, I STILL don't know who Katarina is all that much or why I should give a shit about her other then being another blatant Ms. The first order of business is to, obviously, bring back the endings for Arcade Mode that have been around since the original game, which made its debut nearly 25 years ago, if you can believe it. It's self-explanatory, but I basically explain what I want to see in Tekken 8 and go into more detail on how Tekken Project can implement these ideas into the next game, be it Tekken X Street Fighter or, well, Tekken 8, of course. It's Russ here with another fabulous post! And in today's flavor of the month, I have what I like to call my Wishlist for Tekken 8. Thanks for reading everyone, and please check out our TeeSpring page for tons of great merch! We have more than 14 designs in the store, and all proceeds support the local Chicago Tekken scene.Hey, guys. I hope that Akuma serves a valuable tool to the Tekken team, to point out these balance issues, and future areas to focus on for balance in Tekken x Street Fighter. It was a fun project to add him to Tekken. Ultimately, it's nearly impossible to balance Akuma within Tekken 7 without turning him into Eliza (who is an original Tekken character.) Tekken 7 characters were not designed to deal with jump-ins and 10 frame launchers. We have three meter characters in the game right now - Eliza who is firmly low-tier, Geese who is firmly mid or high-tier, and Akuma who is god-tier. When you take a a character like this that subverts the core mechanics, all you can do is make them too weak, then layer buffs over time until they are in a comfortable position. This isn't even the strongest this character has been - his arcade release he was utterly broken. He will then be below average combo damage without meter, and still well above average combo damage with meter.Īkuma needs to be cut off at the knees before being built back up. >Roughly a 10% damage nerf across the board on his combos, both metered and unmetered. This discourages strong defensive play and only rewards him for bullying the opponent. Once he launches/bounds, the rest of the combo should not build any meter. >Akuma should not build meter during combos. So how do I think Akuma needs to be changed? Hold onto your butts, because it's a lot. The only thing relatively unsafe about what he does is potentially getting jabbed out of demon flip for a float combo, or getting his d4 sweep blocked and launched. Having access to turning a jab into a 10 frame launcher completely subverts the core Tekken 7 mechanics and puts the risk-reward structure on it's head. I highly suggest watching the whole video here, and subbing to him for great Tekken content: On this point, FrameWhisperer made a fantastic video about the issue of Season 3 power creep, with high combo damage variance in Tekken and why this is nearly impossible to balance, especially with meter characters. Now you have to block the launcher and eat the following mixup.) Akuma's combo damage is actually average to above average without meter, on top of the ability to throw out safe launchers repeatedly (once you missed your opportunity to float the demon flip, it's too late already.
